Tiny pink ranunculus blooms in my studio were the inspiration for this new floral art print – available here. Follow my painting process from beginning to end in the images below. Original Source My bouquet of ranunculus were getting too droopy for their large vase, so I snipped off the blooms and put them in this little handmade ceramic cup. […]
A recent trip to Palm Beach felt like a Technicolor world compared to gray wintry New York City. These were sketched on my iPad with the Procreate App.

The runner in the foreground, in light blue, is my sister-in-law, who finished in under 4 hours! This NYC Marathon painting was created digitally on my iPad using the Procreate […]
painting Tiepolo clouds over New York City When the clouds in the sky turn puffy and pink I think of Tiepolo, the 18th century Venetian painter, famous for his atmospheric ceiling frescos. He had a particular way of painting clouds in soft shades of rose. This peaceful, dreamy cloud painting was inspired by “Tiepolo clouds” over […]
That End of Summer Wistful Feeling…. I know summer isn’t officially over, but Labor Day Weekend always feels like the end of summer. This contemplative beach scene was painted digitally on my iPad, using the Procreate App.

For the last day of summer….. a sun-dappled garden party painting, created digitally on my iPad.
The other day our friends invited us to visit them on Fire Island, a beautiful barrier island off the coast of Long Island, New York. The dreamy sea view from their deck was quite spectacular and I was inspired to take out my Ipad and make this plein air painting.
Every June I’m inspired to paint roses. The only problem is painting roses has always vexed me. All those layers of petals somehow distract me from capturing the shape of the rose, the feeling of a rose. I get caught up in the details instead of paying attention to the overall effect. The key is to simplify the flowers down to their essence. […]
“One can’t paint New York as it is, but rather how it felt.” – Georgia O’Keeffe. In my latest New York nocturne painting, I wanted to pay tribute to one of my favorite painters of New York City: Georgia O’Keeffe. Yes, THAT Georgia O’Keeffe! I realize when most people think of O’Keeffe they think only […]
A new digital painting this week from my New York Nocturne series. This painting captures the New York skyline at dusk at that magic moment when the sky is still luminous, and the lights of the city are just starting to appear.

This week the top American fashion designers showed off their Fall 2015 collections at New York Fashion Week. One of the designers who always inspires me is Christian Siriano. This impressionist style digital painting was inspired by a gorgeous red petal gown from his latest collection.
It’s freezing here in NYC and indoor activities are the only sensible option! This week my friend Tina & I met at Book Court, a wonderful, independent book store in Brooklyn, NY, to do some sketching. I made this digital watercolor sketch using the 53 Paper app on my iPad.
Every night, New York’s Empire State Building changes the colors of its tower lights to reflect various occasions and organizations. Their spectacular Valentine’s Day display began last night, complete with lights simulating a beating heart and a rotating array of romance-inspired colors, including hot pink. I couldn’t resist making this iPad painting of a pink Empire State […]
Here’s the latest in my series of paintings of New York at night on my iPad. During the winter season a temporary ice skating rink is installed in Bryant Park in Midtown Manhattan. It’s quite magical at night, with the skaters surrounded by the shimmering skyscrapers. In this painting you can see the Empire State building […]
I’ve always loved the word nocturne, as it crosses over between art and music. The American Heritage Dictionary defines nocturne as: 1. A painting of a night scene. 2. An instrumental composition of a pensive, dreamy mood, especially one for the piano. When I think of nocturnes, I think of Chopin’s haunting, moody piano nocturnes. Music with a particular […]
Even if you don’t celebrate Christmas, it’s impossible not to be inspired by the luminous beauty of Christmas in New York City, especially at night. Inspired by the season, I made this new painting of Radio City Music Hall. It was painted digitally on my iPad and is for sale as a custom print. One of my favorite New York City […]
