Chic New Yorkers strike a pose in their Sunday best at New York’s Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival. This annual event dates from the 1870s, and was later immortalized by Irving Berlin, Judy Garland and Fred Astaire in the movie, Easter Parade. I’m always impressed by the participants’ creativity and enthusiasm. Clearly these people have spent days crafting their looks. It’s also a […]
Paris never disappoints, even when she is hobbled by strikes and floods (as happened during my visit last month). Here are a few Paris watercolor sketches from my recent trip. More to come soon.
After a spate of cold damp weather, spring has finally sprung here in NYC. A glimpse of pink magnolias fluttering against a clear blue sky was the inspiration for this spring-inspired watercolor painting. It’s available as fine art prints and throw pillows too:
A big bunch of red, orange and yellow ranunculus flowers in my studio inspired this loose, drippy watercolor painting. Available as fine art prints and throw pillows too:
These pink and white tulips made it feel like springtime in my studio. Pink & White Tulips Prints and Pillows
The NYC Easter Parade & Easter Bonnet Festival is one of those eccentric “only-in-New-York” events that makes me grateful to live here. Unlike many parades, where the floats are the focus, the Easter parade is all about the people who dress to be seen and wear THE most fabulous bonnets – many made by hand. Their dogs dress up too! They’re predicting 2-4 inches of snow today in NYC! Not a good sign for the first day of spring. Fortunately art provides the perfect escape from reality. In the spirit of spring, here is a new digital fashion painting in shades of peach and mint green. It is for sale as a print in my shop.
The excitement of springtime in New York City continues to inspire me to paint. The bursts of colors against the monochromatic grays of the city make me feel lighter. This digital painting of Central Park, with a view of skyscrapers on the horizon, was made on my iPad using the Procreate app. Framed and canvas prints […]
A quick watercolor pattern sketch of deep purple tulips against a pale yellow background.

It’s impossible not to feel optimistic at the first spring blossoms, particularly after this year’s bone-chilling winter here in New York. Here are a couple of new watercolor prints of forsythia and magnolia blossoms, inspired by photographs I made in Central Park. I often paint from my photographs. As you can see in these examples, photographs are just a […]
This watercolor shoe illustration was inspired by the happy colors and nature-inspired patterns of this season’s spring shoes. It was also an experiment in Photoshop – I scanned four original watercolor paintings and combined them into one panoramic image.
Spring is blooming here in New York City, and I couldn’t resist making this impressionist style watercolor cherry blossoms painting of the blossom festooned footpath next to the Central Park Reservoir.
In anticipation of spring I made this pink cherry blossom watercolor painting.
I tried to capture the feeling of spring sunshine in this watercolor fashion illustration of a woman wearing a skirt printed with large pink flowers on a turquoise background.
