From my travels in Boston this summer. This watercolor print was inspired by a quiet stroll through the Boston Public Garden. It’s one of my favorite gardens – America’s first botanical garden, designed by Frederick Law Olmstead. My intention was to capture the feeling of walking along Olmstead’s formal garden path, surrounded by lush greenery […]
That End of Summer Wistful Feeling…. I know summer isn’t officially over, but Labor Day Weekend always feels like the end of summer. This contemplative beach scene was painted digitally on my iPad, using the Procreate App.
New Paintings of Paris, Fashion, Flowers and the New York Skyline…. Having done my vacationing earlier in the summer, I took advantage of that quiet period in August, when most sensible New Yorkers leave town. It was a gift to have uninterrupted time in the studio to work on new paintings. Paris That feeling of coolness in the midst […]

This time of year the fruits and vegetables at the farmer’s markets are a feast for the eyes, as as well as the palette. Inspired by all this delicious bounty, I made these heirloom tomato sketches the other day, painted very quickly in watercolor.

The other day I was at the Union Square Greenmarket near closing time. A woman rushed by me carrying several bunches of beautiful Cosmos, like huge sprays of wildflowers. I was determined to find that vendor and buy some. Within a minute or so I found him packing up his tent for the day. A small number of bouquets remained on his […]
Every June I’m inspired to paint roses. The only problem is painting roses has always vexed me. All those layers of petals somehow distract me from capturing the shape of the rose, the feeling of a rose. I get caught up in the details instead of paying attention to the overall effect. The key is to simplify the flowers down to their essence. […]
