Tutorial: Printable Paper Necklace
Tuesday, 22 September 2009
This delicate little necklace was made using my coral + turquoise watercolor 1″x1″ collage sheet. It’s quite easy to do.
Here’s a list of what else you’ll need:
- Heavyweight inkjet paper or lightweight card stock to print the collage sheet.
- Mod Podge & a foam brush.
- A 1/16″ hole punch
- Scissors or paper cutter
- An ink pad in a color that coordinates with the collage sheet (I used an aqua shade)
- Jump rings (5 mm size) and a pre-made chain necklace (aprox. 16″) - I purchased these from metalliferous.
- Needle nosed jewelers pliers
To begin, print out your collage sheet and paint the whole page with one coat of Modge Podge. Let it dry.
Cut the collage sheet images into strips and trim the outer edges. Then use the Mod Podge to adhere the strips back to back so the images face out. Then cut the strips into squares. You’ll end up with squares with an image on both sides.
Press the edges of each square into the ink pad to fill in the white edges of the card stock.
Coat each square on both sides (one side at a time) with another coating of Mod Podge and let each side dry. I used wadded up pieces of aluminum foil to lift the pieces as they dry, so they didn’t stick to my work surface.
Lay out your necklace on your work surface and move your squares around until you have a design you like. Use the 1/16″ hole punch to puncture the edges of the squares.
Attach the squares with the jump rings to the pre-made chain necklace. Voila, you’ve made this necklace!

My artist friend Barbara Hart recently made this drawing of my little Westie, Jake. I think it really captures his Terrier spirit - devilish and sweet at the same time. You can see more of Barbara’s pet portraits at her website.
